Coffee Shops and Writing; My Unspoken Love Story

I started writing in 2008, so long ago that coffee shops were a matter of luxury, and carrying an iPad or a Laptop along was not a thing. I used to write in my hostel room, alone and in the silence of nights, thanks to our single accommodations in the hostel in MBBS. So many scribbled stories that never found their outcome then. So many notes on my phone, still trying to find their way out in public.

Promised myself then that I won't stop writing ever. But the accompanying silence was withdrawn after MBBS and came in the company of people, of flatmates, of family, and of my own clobbered mind. It's disturbing and distracting at the same time. I have always been in awe of people who can do their creative stints in the midst of all the chaos. Pure Magic! Me? I create chaos in my head then😅.

So, from a weekly writing ritual to doing it only when I can find solace became my new way. Mind you, the solitude comes rarely to people like me who are social and have acquaintances with people, even at the restaurant where we used to eat every fortnight.

Then came the time of artisanal coffees and my confidence in going solitary to places. Trust me when I say I have been an introvert extrovert in my school with a small group of friends to hang out with. More so, we were the 'so-called' studious bunch of people. When I started college, I realised I need to be a more extroverted extroverted kind of personality for dealing with the variety of people needed for personal growth and goals. So yeah, an extrovert who enjoys her space even when out there is the kind of person I have become.

From going alone to cafes n movies to going alone and doing things I love to do alone, like reading and writing in cafes, was a transition I enjoyed the most.

Writing stories, to writing manuscripts, to writing scientific work, to making lifestyle plans, to creating works for personal growth; all the writing happens in a cafe. The mental blocks open in the cafe jazz more easily than they can with a person guiding you.

From being a non-caffeine person to being a coffee lover for the clarity and love of the vibe, I have become a coffee shop writer like so many other members of our clan.

Hoping to bring out something worthwhile super soon from all the shenanigans I had at various coffee shops around the country; literally😉.
