The Name Game!!
For parents…childbirth is one of the most divine interventions…and indeed, it is the boon to humanity…the happiness beaming on the faces of the family people…is so genuine and true…
In this ongoing happy streak…there are numerous events which make the family atmosphere festive…and the most important of them all is “THE NAMING CEREMONY” of the kid…of course he/she should be named…to be known to the world…and here all the relatives start pouring through numerous books, some technos going through internet…all for a cause…to get a unique and best name for the child…so that his/her name is inimitable…and many a peers are successful in getting that particular maiden name…
Just like mine….GORAL…I bet many a people might not have even heard of my name…to tell you all…my name means “Very Dear To All”…and as my name goes…I am really dear to many…my family as well as friends…
Having a different name is fun actually…no one around shares your name…few months back when I searched for my name on a social networking site, I got as few as 27 results (might have increased by now)…also every new person I meet is so interested in my name…they surely end up asking me the meaning of it…or at least they do get hold of it…now who doesn’t like being asked for and about…and from one of my experiences…I was suppose to apply for leave and had to give application to a professor who doesn’t like being absent…thanks to my name…he just asked me its meaning…and was like “ so that means I should not get angry with you…” hell yeah…it proved helpful…people do remember you for your name quite a lot times…
Now there’s a but for this too…being a unique name…people often get the wrong pronunciation of it…this was not the case up till my high school…but my alma mater…MGIMS…has given me so so many names…my naming ceremony still on…people here are from quite a lot different regions…and so they dissect my name as per them…ideally I always had an impression that Goral is quite easy to write as well as pronounce…but here I heard it in quite a lot ways…won’t be listing out them here…but as many as 15 of my names have been cracked…and still the toll is rising…now I am a 3rd prof student and every year I was named something new by different teachers…Also since it’s heard by all for the first time, they get confused as to is this the name or the title…
Barring them…my own batch mates…precisely hostel mates…have been naming me a lot…though having a short and sweet name…still they trimmed it and are still compressing it more…”Godya”…”Goda”…”God”…I guess by the end of MBBS, I will be left with just a “G” in my name…
However, it’s always a pleasure to have as beautiful name as “Goral”… I just love it…so unique…so cute…and really a sweet one…
I thank my uncle who got me this name and my parents who kept this as my functional name…
But I am sure that as I grow and meet newer people and touch the newer horizons…my naming ceremony will still be on…and I’ll get to hear more of them…and would still be loving being “GORAL”…

ReplyDeleteI have been tramautized a thousand of times in this game . My name has undergone changes like Karthick , Kartheek , Kartik and what not ,..and the most interesting part is my Dad's name is even misinterpreted ..Ragupathy , Ragubarthy and what not ...I dread to see the day when it will be Ragda Patis ..
